Growing up, I was always captivated by the world of healthcare. As a freshman in high school, I was in a car accident that resulted in a detached retina. I worked closely with a doctor who told me I could potentially need surgery on my eye, but that she would work tirelessly to ensure that I could heal without an operation. After months of being on strict bedrest, constant ophthalmology visits and interventions, my eye healed completely and I was able to return to school without surgery. From that day, I decided I wanted to work closely with patients and impact people's lives the same way she had impacted mine. I started my healthcare journey in the clinical laboratory. I remained in this department for 8 years and was able to work closely with bloodbank, hematology, clinical chemistry and microbiology departments. In the meantime, I transferred from San Francisco State University back to the East Bay and obtained a Health Sciences degree. I then began applying for nursing schools when the pandemic hit. Towards the end of the pandemic, I found myself in a dual role of working in the clinical laboratory and moonlighting in pathology. I was hired into the Dermatopathology department in 2021 where I've been working ever since. I continued my education and decided to pursue psychology because I have always been passionate about mental health advocacy. Graduating in 2024 with a major in Psychology and a minor is Applied Health Sciences, I am energized by learning and volunteer opportunities while I am studying to become a licensed marriage and family therapist.
