• Responsible for Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Serology, and Body Fluid sections of Laboratory.
• Followed laboratory protocols for specimen processing, analysis and results reporting.
• Received routine and stat and ER specimens into the laboratory for distribution and processing. Followed protocols for all Code testing including, Code Stroke, Trauma, and Code Saves etc.
• Identified test system abnormalities with potential for negatively affecting test performance or reporting and corrected issues.
• Operated 2 DXH Hematology analyzers, two TOP analyzers for coagulation, and Iris urinalysis analyzers among other instrumentation through the years at HCA. Performed required maintenance , QC and troubleshooting on all the analyzers while keeping up with serology bench testing, including COVID, and Influenza testing on Sophia analyzers and other serology bench testing. Maintained excellent TAT with minimal error. Received recognition from ER staff for excellent TATs and from Director and Manager of Laboratory for trouble shooting and repairing both Coag analyzers when they both went down at same time and there was snake bite victim in ER and for "owning" the department.
• Maintained required laboratory supplies inventory, and verified viability of supplies prior to use and kept Hematology lead notified of any ongoing issues or trends with analyzers , QC, supplies etc.
• Participated in procedure and instrument development activities.
• Completed specimen collection and analysis while complying with OSHA, Universal Precautions and quality assurance policies.
• Operated, calibrated and maintained sophisticated instruments and equipment to facilitate quality laboratory and patient care operations.
• Maintained confidentiality of all patient information to conform to HIPAA, internal and other regulatory standards.
• Worked with pathologist to isolate abnormalities and narrow down likely diagnoses.
• Input medical tests and clinical results data into computer using [Software] for storage and retrieval.
• processed morning run specimens along with STAT ER testing. Performed both normal and abnormal peripheral smear and body fluid cytospins. Abnormal criteria slides requiring Path reviews then left and Pathologists in agreement with reported results.

• Began as a Generalist and then asked to take over Reference Lab.

Responsible for specimen handling and processing. Underwent special training on Hematology analyzer on own initiative. Extremely heavy workload and stressful conditions with short-staffing.

• Employed Per Diem simultaneously with full time 7 on/off position with Christus St. Elizabeth.
• Responsible for operation of lab from opening to closing working alone. Performed generalist testing and phlebotomy for this physicians group.
