  • Diagnoses often included , facial reconstruction and tracheotomies Also many patients were treated for breast cancer These patients underwent TRAM flaps, free flaps, leech and radiation therapy, wound care We also cared for burn patients and those with AVM embolizations and surgical interventions
  • Due to the nature of our patient population with cancer diagnoses, which frequently involved facial deformities, and for many, impending death, we encompassed many attempted suicides
  • Psychological, emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families was a major component of my nursing care Helping them through devastating facial and bodily changes can be quite challenging The inability to speak and learning to care for a laryngectomy can be overwhelming to both patient and their families
