K-6 Music Teacher

  • Planned and executed a Scope and Sequence to instruct students about music theory and music history, using biblical and thematic timelines for each grade K-6 using engaging activities.
  • Utilized current technology and interactive teaching methods to enhance student engagement using sacred hymns, spirituals and folksongs.
  • Collaborated with colleagues to design interdisciplinary units that connect music with other subjects, i.e. art and science.
  • Improved student musicianship by incorporating a variety of teaching methods and techniques such as The Kodaly Method and the Orff Schulwerk Process.
  • Familiarized students with basic Elements of Music such as Dynamics, Form, Harmony, Melody, Pitch, Rhythm, Tempo, and Timbre through experiences of listening, moving and singing.
  • Developed students' skills in reading music and playing rhythms while understanding the relationship between pitch and intervals. These were accomplished through techniques using the Kodaly Method and learning to play the Soprano Recorder (Gr 4-5-6).
  • Evaluated student progress regularly through observational assessments, giving constructive feedback and adjusting instruction as needed for continual improvement.

  • Directed and created annual school-wide events such as concerts at Christmas and in the Spring. Selected repertoire, developed rehearsal techniques and taught performance etiquette that showcase students' talents and musicianship skills.

In addition to the responsibilities in my current position, please add the following activities during my time teaching in Manatee County:

  • Developed a scope and sequence to use in my classroom that integrated the school wide theme for the Art and Music Festival. Each year we studied a different continent or region around the world.
  • Annually directed and created a Patriotic concert, Holiday Concert with my school chorus, and director of the Art and Music Festival (5th grade).
  • Directed and lead the Manatee All-County Choir (of 200 singers) in 2008, 2013 and 2017.
