Elucidating changes in trans influence for GePh3, SnPh3, and PbPh3
UC Santa Cruz; CHEM 146B CURE Lab (Spring 2024)
In this Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience, I investigated whether there was a difference in the trans influence of the titled ligands by synthesizing the series (CO)5Mn(EPh3), where E = Ge, Sn, Pb. Product identities were confirmed using multinuclear NMR (1H, 119Sn, 207Pb) and IR spectroscopy. The trans influence was assessed crystallographically by investigating Mn-C bond lengths.
