· Manage daily operations of the Assessor's Office, ensuring efficient workflow, timely processing of state reports, and effective coordination with the Tax Collector, Building Department, Engineering Department, Town Clerk, and other municipal offices.
· Provide leadership and operational oversight by directing daily staff activities, assigning and prioritizing workloads, offering technical guidance, and ensuring compliance with state statutes, municipal policies, and assessment standards. Serve as Acting Assessor in the Assessor's absence, overseeing departmental operations and addressing assessment-related matters.
· Serve as the primary point of contact for taxpayers by providing professional in-person and telephone assistance regarding property assessments, Vision, Quality Data, and GIS records. Respond to inquiries from property owners, attorneys, real estate professionals, and the general public.
· Process and review applications for Homeowner, Veteran, Active-Duty Military, Blind, Disabled, and other local property tax exemptions by verifying eligibility, income documentation, and supporting records. Process deeds, building permits, address changes, and motor vehicle prorations in accordance with Connecticut statutes and local regulations.
· Conduct field inspections to verify property characteristics, update assessment records and property cards, audit Personal Property Declarations, and maintain accurate valuation data. Enter and verify property sales information within the Office of Policy and Management (OPM) database.
· Maintain the accuracy and integrity of assessment records through comprehensive review, quality control, and consistent application of assessment practices and regulatory requirements.
· Support departmental efficiency by troubleshooting office technology, maintaining equipment, and identifying opportunities to improve administrative processes and data management.
