2007-Currently assigned to the Special Security Unit (SSU). SSU Staff are responsible for monitoring, documenting and identifying any security threats groups. This purpose is to minimize the threat that inmate gang or gang like activity poses to the safe, secure and efficient operation of institutions. The role of SSU Staff is also to prevent and identify any other possible threats to the public, inmate population, staff and institution. These threats include and are not limited to the introduction of contraband, escapes, assaults, and security practices.
• Conducting investigations on Security Threat Groups / Criminal Street Gang members housed within ADCRR.
• Gather and review reports and other information sources pertaining to newly arriving inmates, return to custody inmates, and inmates due for release with criminal gang affiliations.
• Identify inmates which are CSG / STG members, as well as conducting interviews with these inmates pertaining to their gang activity, and what position held.
• Complete validation packets on known STG associates and members.
• Conducting prison and complex security searches, documenting all findings and reported it to supervisors, with memorandums, and all proper documentation.
• Attend all meetings, training sessions which pertained to CSG / STG gangs.
• Provide all required information to other law enforcement agencies pertaining to all criminal activity, with consent of supervisors and department policy.
• Meet with Administration Staff daily to report any issues or concerns regarding staff and inmates.
• De-escalate potential violent situations.
• Maintain weapons qualifications with 9mm pistol, Remington 870 shotgun, CEW Taser, and 37mm launcher.
• Conduct telephone and mail monitoring, use and incorporate most current investigative techniques, to gather information pertaining to STG/CSG activity, narcotics, weapons and other dangerous contraband.
