I started working at Newport News Shipbuilding in 2013. Within the last 10 years I've gained more responsibility and training that has allowed me to work on components that require following strict procedures and in depth knowledge on entire systems. I've gained qualifications that allow me to work on both nuclear and steam plant systems. Often time leading jobs and coordinating with multiple trades to get jobs done.
I've worked on multiple systems (nuclear and non nuclear) on two different classes of aircraft carriers. Including propulsion, weapons, and defense. I've also worked on multiple submarine systems. I'm currently apart of fleet support, traveling to different states to help keep the worlds finest ships in working order. Recently I finished up two 6 months deployments working on the Navy's newest Aircraft Carrier, the Gerald R. Ford. Being one of only 3 Nuclear Machinist with the proper qualification I'm considered essential when it comes to sea trials.
I know the restaurant experience doesn't direct apply to CSX but I feel the fact I started from the bottom and worked my way up to Sous Chef at a multiple award winning restaurant speaks to my ability to learn, grow, and lead over a short period of time. And shows I can follow strict guidelines while organizing and leading a large group of people to achieve a common goal.
In closing, I grew up obsession with trains. What make these monster machines run? How do they pull these trains that seem to last forever. It would be a dream come true to work for a great company like CSX. If given the chance I'll put 100$ of my energy into being the best conductor I can be.
