Work History

Sr. Software Research Scientist

Intel Corporation
Hillsboro, OR
05.2016 - Current

I currently work within Intel Labs on technology innovations in close collaboration with business units to bring solutions from ideation to the proof of concept phase of development. The projects that I work on involve the rapid development of proof of concept software and testbeds. This included development of low level system software such as network callout drivers and middleware as well as application layer software.

  • Created software for automation and monitoring of complex systems and testbeds. Including tools for network performance measurement.
  • Developed microservices and containerized existing applications for integration into Kubernetes cluster.
  • Created sidecar proxy for transparent manipulation of network traffic and created Operators for extending Kubernetes.
  • Developed Wan Emulation software to enable application/protocol performance testing under real world conditions in a lab environment.

Software Engineer

Intel Corporation
Hillsboro, OR
04.2010 - 05.2016
  • Served as subject matter expert on network communications and security for both partners and internal team members.
  • Managed medium scale ISP that provided network services and internet access to hundreds of internal teams
  • Developed a "Smart-Gateway" appliance based on Linux that was used to provide security across our R&D network. All traffic through our network internal and external was inspected, firewalled and traffic-shaped by these appliances. Used custom technique of split workload over all cores of a multi-processor server to improve throughput from ~100mbps -> over 10Gbps.
  • Created network performance analysis suite designed for automated performance characterization of communications networks originally targeted towards aiding in development of WiMax and later extended to support Wi-Fi and wired network performance testing and analysis.

Technical Intern

Business Education Compact
Beaverton, OR
03.2009 - 03.2010
  • Helped improve the security of existing network measurement tools by implementing control channel encryption and command authentication.
  • Managed a research and development datacenter and ISP. Supported a large Cisco based network spanning most of Intel's Oregon campuses and providing connectivity to hundreds of internal customers and external partners.
  • Developed tools for datacenter management including a IP Address Management website and tools for tracking devices on the network that crawled Cisco switches to search for devices based on MAC or IP address.
