Although I am currently a government and economics teacher at Calistoga High School, I am seeking additional part-time employment. As a teacher, I am expected to be an effective and clear communicator. I must successfully interact with people of all ages and backgrounds. I must be sensitive to the needs and expectations of others and develop relationships built on trust, confidence, and respect. I am skilled in being a resourceful problem solver and a cool headed team player. My skills have broad applications in customer service, solution-seeking and implementation, and achieving team goals.
-2006-2010: English Language and Reading Literacy Teacher. Teaching 9th and 10th grade English literature and reading comprehension, I helped to increase student literacy rates by implementing targeted reading strategies and essay writing skills in general and individualized instruction plans.
-2010-Present: Government/Economics teacher. This is by far my favorite class because I get to work with 12th grade seniors and help them prepare for their own future success. I have been able to stimulate curiosity and interest in how the world works through hands-on and personalized activities focusing on the functions of the United States government and the free market economic system.
-2007-Present: Student Activities Director and Leadership Teacher. During the last 17 years, I have led the students activities class in the planning, organizing, logistical preparation, and carrying out of the Homecoming Week celebrations, the school Prom, and all of the dozens of other school activities throughout the school year intended to promote community, school pride, and fun.
In all of these teaching responsibilities, I have been able to support students' physical, mental, and social learning and development through classroom lessons and school activities.
I have organized and supervised extracurricular activities such as field trips that enriched students' learning experiences outside the traditional classroom setting. We have taken field trips to the California State Capitol Building and Old Town Sacramento. We have taken a historical walking tour through San Francisco. We have taken a physical and human geography field trip to Armstrong Woods and Bodega Head.
I have participated in dozens of parent teacher conferences to discuss the development of students and increase the needed support. This has required me to be effective at communicating with all age groups and all manner of people for almost two decades.
