Work History

Inventory Lead

Carmax
02.2012 - Current
  • As an Inventory Lead, I am primarily responsible for the ensuring that all company products and assets are secure and accounted for, as well as facilitating the work necessary to move them through our refurbishing and repair processes. This is a vast series of processes and includes (but is not limited to): Cosmetic Repair, Mechanical Repair, Networking with local vendors for repairs and completing recalls, searching for replacement parts online, ordering supplies, completing a daily audit of our products, training associates, and rolling out new innovations and technology. Additionally, I also am responsible for ensuring our facilities are up-kept, such as the Carwash, Bobcat, Plow trucks, Power Washers, and our industrial cleaning machines. I aid the other work groups in assembling a team to address hazardous weather, and ensure all of our assets are functional during snow storms.
  • As an Inventory Lead, I create a gameplan for the week based on our Logistics reporting and generate a schedule weekly to ensure all incoming and outgoing products have the necessary staff on hand. Additionally, I am a part of the hiring process along with our Operations Supervisor, screening employee candidates to ensure they're the right fit. The Team I oversee is a mix of Full and Part time associates with a vast age range. The population count can range from 9 associates to 13.
  • As a member of the leadership team, I represent my work group and collaborate with other work groups in the store to make sure all of our group goals are met, as well as keep the groups aware of any facilities and zoning concerns. This is primarily done through scheduled meetings, but can also be the result of a spontaneous event requiring that I step in and provide solutions.
  • Being the Inventory Lead, my primary customer interactions consist of tracking their vehicle during shipment and preparing it for the final sale. I am available to answer questions, investigate delays, and address and remedy discrepancies in our product advertising.
  • Because our products are used vehicles, a large component of the job involves networking with local manufacturers to source parts and schedule repairs, pre-sale. I am also responsible for ensuring our partnered vendors are paid, as well as review our invoice reporting to ensure there are no issues with payment, pricing, or labor descriptions.
  • Lastly, I was from a competitive store and my department routinely placed in first for the region based on our "Victory Lane" rating system. My efficiency scores are rated by the total duration a vehicle remains in pre-saleable status, the ratio of pre-saleable to saleable vehicles we have on the site, and the amount of money invested in a vehicle to make it saleable.

Assistant

America's Tae Kwon Do Center
02.2010 - 06.2013
  • As an Assistant Instructor, I was responsible for providing a quality Martial Arts education to our clients. The ages ranged from 5 to 60, with the expectation that I tailor my teaching style for said class.
  • Representing Tae Kwon Do values by modeling myself on and off the training mat to encourage growth and development from our clients, as well as care.

Brick Specialist

LEGO
11.2011 - 01.2012
  • As a Brick Specialist, I was a standard retail associate. My responsibilities revolved around maintaining and stocking products, operating the cash register to handle transactions, and partnering with a Supervisor to ensure our products are in stock or are promptly ordered.
  • Additionally, there was a large emphasis on customer interactions and being approachable to children. The goal was to be a part of the overall "production" and contribute to fun and exciting experiences.
  • Lastly, I had nightly janitor duties.

Sale Associate

Party City
09.2009 - 11.2011
  • Organized racks and shelves to maintain store visual appeal, engage customers, and promote specific merchandise.
  • Handled cash transactions efficiently while adhering to company cash handling policies, ensuring accuracy in all financial exchanges.
  • Given the seasonal nature of Party City, adhering to the marketing associated with a holiday was encouraged. Our most profitable season was Halloween, and being a part of the experience was required for seasoned employees, which involved dressing up and performance.
  • A unique component to this job was to arrange balloon orders for customers, preparing balloons for various events such as weddings or birthdays. This involved collaboration and creation of a customer's desired order.
  • Nightly Janitor duties and money counting.

Accomplishments

My top accomplishments would have to be:

  • My Work Group contributions to our Department's Number 1 rating the region. We secured the Number 1 status every year I acted as Inventory Lead. I was primarily judged on pre-saleable to saleable ratio, Customer Transfer Cycle Time, and the cost of getting our pre-sale cars to saleable status. Combined with the work from the other groups in our department, we have set the standard for what success looks like to the rest of the region.
  • Our early adoption of new systems, such as our RecovR tracking systems. My work group was considered so efficient that we test-piloted said new systems and I was tasked with traveling to other stores to help with associate adoption as well as familiarizing other leadership members with the system tools involved in tracking our products. I even became our store's unofficial troubleshooter and learned how our new system impacted other department's work, as well as how data was shared between RecovR, our proprietary programs, and Sales Force.
  • Repairing an important Vendor Relation involving an accounting error. Shortly after taking the Lead Position I was tasked with addressing an opportunity leftover from my predecessor. To remedy the concern, I spent all night working with said vendor at their location to figure out the accounting errors and was able to provide information to both Carmax Corporate and the Vendor's accounting team, which resulted in the corrections of over 100 individual transactions. The error stemmed from a misunderstanding with how the invoices were associated with our vehicles, so I essentially had to correlate invoices with Vehicle Identification Numbers, spanning back the previous 5 years. After this accomplishment, I was able to set the standard for what my time in a leadership role would look like and our store's relationship with said vendor remains strong.

Interests

I take on a lot My interests are largely tied to money making opportunities, and a common thread between everything that I do is Networking I enjoy bridging out and compounding skills, and so I've been thankful in discovering many opportunities across Northern Virginia Working for Carmax has allowed me to explore my love for old cars and this afforded me an opportunity to purchase and eventually restore my 1986 C4 Corvette This has allowed me to Network into antique car communities

While I have no art education, art has been in my life before I had cable television, and I've expanded that skill into 3D printing and the painting of props and sculptures, which I also sell on the side I did not initially create a formal portfolio, but I am retro-actively assembling one if an employer is interested

Lastly I enjoy fitness I make it a point to incorporate a workout into my day at least 3 times a week I have trained with Tae Kwon Do practitioners, MMA practitioners, and did a few fitness and fire arm courses with local police members

It's difficult for me to place myself in any one specific realm of interest Generally, if it's a task that involves money or competition, I tend to be attracted to it Bonus points if it requires showmanship But this is all thanks to my natural curiosity and my ability to network and maintain relationships
