Caring for patients in an ambulatory surgery center post anesthesia. Medications to help with pain and nausea as well as post operative teaching so the patient can safely go home and manage their care.
In OPS, I prepped patients prior to surgery with consents, iv placement, medications, site prep, and assisted anesthesia with peripheral nerve blocks prior to surgery as well as assisted in post op cares with medications for pain and/or nausea, post op education and discharging patients home from same day surgery.
In PACU I recovered patients of all ages from a variety of surgeries. Sometimes patients came to our department still intubated and I safely extubated them when the time was right. I managed pain and nausea and recovered the patient until they were safe to go back to Outpatient or back to their hospital room.
Managed bedside care of the ICU vented patients, mostly covid patients, but also other septic patients during my time as ICU staff. Some experience with managing fresh CABG patients.
Conducted daily shift briefs to inform staff of changes in patient care assignments.
As charge, I was responsible to attend all Rapid responses/Codes within the hospital
floated to multiple bedside nursing units, but mainly worked the Covid unit along with the National Guard.
Floated to different tele floors to care for patients, assisted in caring for some of the first Covid patients in Missouri, but assignment canceled due to hospital utilizing surgery nurses to replace travel nurses.
worked at a teaching facility where we rounded with physicians and residents on patients with multiple GI wounds/surgeries, as well as worked along side wound care nurse to assist in multiple dressing changes and skin care.
worked the PCU floor taking care of multiple heart cath patients, as well as other conditions of the heart, Congested heart failure, Hyper/Hypotension, Myocardial Infarctions, post op day 1 CABG patients, as well as sepsis patients.
worked Medsurg floor, took care of lots of alcohol/heroin withdrawal patients as well as ortho and GI patients.

hired to help with EMR conversion to EPIC, floated to 5 different floors to take my own patient load or occasionally they had me as primary admissions nurse, I would float to different floors to get the patient admitted in the new system.

hired to help with EMR conversion from complete paper charting to McKesson electronic charting. worked 48hr weeks, managed care of sickle cell, alcohol withdrawal, chest pain and cardiac drips.
Cardio/Pulmonary floor with stroke overflow. Worked with tracheostomies, chest tubes, COPD, Pulmonary Embolisms, chest pain, pneumonia, congested heart failure and stroke patients.
