I was a tremendous asset to the VCL team, as my supervisor asked me if I would be willing to support them due to the large influx of hiring Veteran Crisis Line Responders. Whether it was to quality review the 100+ new hires they were onboarding in a pay period and then getting them pushed on to payroll for processing, or diving into complex record reviews and initiating the cancellations or corrections if necessary; I always expertly worked each action through to completion on time. It seemed like the RSSSU was always in chaos, so I always willingly and graciously took on anything asked of me to help different teams or customers that I did not typically support. Even in the most challenging circumstances, which the RSSSU (5 Pillars under them) has faced many this last year, I have never been one to say, “I'm too busy” or “That's not my job,” but rather I am always first in line to take on whatever is asked, and then some.
I have been told by my supervisor that he considers me a gifted mentor. Three times a week without fail, I gather my Human Resource Assistants (HRAs) and the occasional supervisor to conduct a line-by-line review of work completed and work to be done. This meeting is held on Microsoft Teams since we are all remote and I share my screen so that they can see where the error is. When an error is found, I go to great lengths to explain the “why” thereby ensuring the basic concepts are understood and applied moving forward. When an action is error-free, I exert the same effort affirming all that went right with the action. Additionally, I make a concerted effort to expose team members to functions and responsibilities outside the normal scope of their duties to expand their professional knowledge. My efforts as a mentor have resulted in the timely processing of 900+ actions through pay period 4 (2024) and has expanded the foundational knowledge of Team B (19 personnel). This Earned me "Employee of the Month"!
