My initial interest in Radiologic Technology started after I took a CNA class in High School. During the CNA class, I learned to perform hands-on CNA duties like showering, cleaning, transferring, learning what to look out for, and what to do in emergencies with residents. After High School, I continued to gain knowledge in the medical field. I got hired as a CNA for the SW Kansas Cooperative District USD 613 (SKACD). While working as a CNA I have excelled in patient care and team collaboration, demonstrating my critical thinking and bilingual abilities. I work with many kids with different disabilities throughout the SW Kansas area. My work as a CNA demonstrates my commitment to healthcare. Radiologic Technology stood out to me because it plays such a crucial role when it comes to diagnosing and treating patients effectively. I was able to get some observational experience in the RAD Tech program when I took a tour of FHSU. They gave me the opportunity to go into the allied health department and see how the students were practicing with one another. It was very intriguing to see everyone be passionate about their choice in career. I have also been able to shadow in different clinical sites. I always like to take the time to conversate with people in the medical field and take in as much knowledge as they share with me. Many of which were affiliated with the RAD Tech and DMS program, and others who were FHSU RAD Tech and DMS second year students. After having informative conversation with current and previous students, I understood the intensity of the program and how important it is to seek help when you need it. I also learned many new tactics to use when studying. It gave me an in depth description of what my life would look like as a RAD Tech student. My personal goals in RAD Tech are to expand my knowledge and succeed in the program academically.
