- Registered Nurse in a specialty ventilator nursing home/step-down unit, one of a kind in its field. Residents range in age from 18 to 101 years. Most residents are on long-term ventilator/ Trach care. Duties include managing staff, including CNAs, RN Supervisors, LPNs, RN staff nurses, Nurse Techs, and RTs/Respiratory techs regarding daily care and infection control practices. Manage PICC/ CENTRAL/MID line care, provide assistance giving IV medications that nurses are unable to give, draw blood from PICC/Central/Mid lines for daily lab work, and monitor wounds alongside the wound care nurse to prevent infections. Work closely with residents' Physicians, Medical Providers, and Pharmacists to ensure the prevention of Ventilator-associated infections, skin infections, PNA's, bacteria, and other various infections. Maintain environmental standards regarding prevention of disease, bacterial infections, and daily housekeeping/hygiene in the unit. The unit is a contact/droplet precaution unit, so PPE is strictly managed and upheld. Provide guidance and assist staff as needed. Manage care plans, family notifications, and schedule specialty procedures in and out of the facility. Orient new hires regarding standards of Infection Control Practices, interviewing, and hiring of new staff. management meetings and QI data collection for state and facility review. Monitoring and maintenance of staff and immunizations annually. Training regarding new practices, updates on COVID-19, and swabbing new staff and residents for COVID-19 prior to procedures or possible exposures.
