I am a seasoned Corrections professional with sixteen years of experience working in multiple Correctional facilities as a Correctional Officer. I started at the Anamosa State Penitentiary in 2008 and remained their for two years before transferring to the Iowa Medical Classification Center, where I am still currently employed as a Correctional Officer. In my sixteen years of experience with the Iowa Department of Corrections, I have acquired many diverse skills, while performing many different duties that qualify me to work diversely within a Correctional environment. Working with incarcerated residents brings many different challenges and opportunities. Over my course of employment in Corrections, I have learned how to deal with and overcome many of these challenges as well as being able to recognize and see opportunities to help people in need, and lead them to helpful resources. I have also been able to talk to, council, and help many incarcerated residents, regarding, concerns, questions, emotional struggles, conflicts, and many other subjects, while maintaining professional boundaries and upholding institutional security practices. I have a long history and background in security and Corrections which gives me an understanding of the importance of maintaining a balance of security and boundaries within the correctional environment.
