  • Worked with wide variety of animals: rhesus macaques, owl monkeys, squirrel monkeys, rats, mice, rabbits, guinea pigs, and pigs. Never shied away from accepting and learning new responsibilities, and level of care that came with each one.

Cleaned and maintained cage wash machinery by making sure ph levels were correct, tanks were drained for removal of debris, calcium build up was minimized, and reported any damages.

  • Devoted special emphasis to punctuality and worked to maintain an excellent attendance record, always arrived to work early to start early.
  • Prepared daily diets and helped Zoo keepers distribute them throughout the yards and stalls.
  • Cleaned the yards and stalls by removing excrement and uneaten food. Cleaned equipment and made certain that all equipment was removed from yards and stalls before elephants were allowed access.
  • Cleaned work spaces by wiping down counters and swept floors in kitchen and hay room. Organized hay room by removing partially empty pallets and stacking excess hay bails onto other pallets to make room for future deliveries.
  • Informed zoo keepers if we noticed any health problems that the elephants may have been exhibiting. Answered phone calls and relayed messages when zoo keepers were preoccupied.
  • Learned and practiced safe working habits regarding transmittable diseases with different animals groups.
  • Acted as a Vet Tech so elephants would be more comfortable around strangers during check ups.
  • Additionally, I helped the Amazonian building by observing the behavior of the Titi monkeys to make sure they knew their boundaries and did not interact with guests since the monkeys live in a open habitat.

  • Responsible for taking care of juvenile alligators, Blood pythons, Indian water monitor, Gila monsters, Crested geckos, Burmese pythons, turtles, and tortoises.
  • Frequently handled all specimens to observe their physical health and behavior. Also handled them to make sure they were safe for handling during public events.
  • When a specimen was too aggressive we handled him often to make him more comfortable with people and eventually tamed.
  • During special events on campus or at a museum, I displayed Dr. Carmichael's specimens to the public in a safe, engaging, and educational atmosphere.
  • Assisted with lab studies by providing students with equipment they needed and ensuring that the animals were being handled properly and safely.
  • Cleaned and sanitized food bowls, water dishes, cages, snake hooks, and anything else that the reptiles came into contact outside of their cages.
  • Prepared a wide variety of diets: dicing fruits and vegetables, collecting Madagascar hissing cockroaches, super worms, crickets, and thawing out large rats and mice.
  • Trained new technicians and oversaw their responsibilities to make sure they were doing it properly.
