  • Monitoring and performing direct nursing care for laboring mothers and their babies on a Level 4 nursing unit.
  • Assessing and caring for mothers on a high-risk unit that includes managing and treating Preeclampsia, gestational hypertension, gestation diabetes, and many other high-risk conditions during pregnancy.

  • Assessed infant health directly after birth using APGAR and monitored health for specified amount of time for any changes in status.
  • Promoted maternal-infant bonding by educating new parents on infant care techniques such as breastfeeding and skin-to-skin contact.
  • Operating Room Charge Nurse role included duties such as organizing OR cases in both scheduled, urgent, and STAT circumstances, collaborating with all staff, including anesthesia, scrub techs, nurses, physicians, residents, Certified Nurse Midwives, and medical students to maintain organization in the OR during all cases maintaining patient safety at all times. As an OR charge nurse I would also assist with both set up and break down of the OR before and after all cases, organizing environmental services to assist in the cleaning of the OR, PACU, and labor rooms in a timely manner to ensure rooms are clean for our new patients and an OR is always available in the case of an emergency.
  • Responding to emergency situations such as severe pre-eclampsia, seizures, fetal distress, cord prolapse, amniotic fluid embolisms, malignant hypothermia, and severe maternal hemorrhage, which included JADA or BAKRI insertion, collaboration of the OR for a potential B-Lynch procedure or hysterectomy.
  • Assisted physicians in performing complex medical procedures, including cesarean sections, forceps and vacuum assisted deliveries.
  • Quickly responded to situations impacting safety and security to unit, actualizing crisis prevention interventions to control and de-escalate situations.
