Just a little about myself,
My name is Breanna Swanson (Brea) for short. I was born in Tulsa ,Ok. moved to Broken Arrow in the middle of my 6th grade year. My parents divorced shortly after. I left my moms at the age of sixteen, my mother wasn't really the best role model and I didn't care for the life style. I attended Broken Arrow high school until 12th grade where I had the opportunity to go to Thunderbird Youth Academy. I graduated top of my class and was in color guard/honor guard. After I graduated I started working as a waitress at Chili's. It wasn't long after that I ran into my high school boyfriend and well we have now been married 10 years and have two amazing children. I worked at Chili's for two years before I gave birth to my oldest child and we moved from our apartment into a rent house. I started working some nights and weekends at Apple Barrel Cafe I worked there for two years and took time off after my daughter was born to take care of my kids. When my son started school at the age of four I started working at a daycare as the two year old teacher. It was a ideal because my daughter could come to work with me and I got a discount on childcare. It was a really rewarding job and I loved it but childcare took half my paycheck. I went back to work at Apple Barrel Cafe, just not the broken arrow location I helped open a new location and was promoted to manager. I also began working part time at the BOK center in the suites serving food and drinks to groups enjoying concerts etc. I did this for about three years until my husbands career required he complete a few certification classes, so I quit working nights at the BOK center and about three months later I decided it was my turn that the kids were old enough for me to go to school. I had no idea at the time what i wanted to do. I woke up the next day and it was like my grandfather was speaking to me I knew I was meant to be a fire fighter. That morning I went to the Broken Arrow police and Fire Training Center and talked with Chief Riley about what steps to take, that's when he mentioned that OakGrove was hiring volunteers and that wagoner was putting on a fire academy. I applied immediately! I passed fire one and hazmat ops and awareness. I then heard about a paid volunteer position with the Coweta Fire Department I applied and was hired right after I received my Fire 1 Certification. Shortly after, my husband was diagnosed with kidney cancer, and I decided to take a time of leave to be there for him. He had surgery and is now cancer free. During this time, I applied for EMT classes online but with us both being out of work I wasn't able to afford it, that's when I heard about your program. Another sign I was meant to do this. I could not be more excited for this opportunity and hope you will give me the chance to prove myself. Taking care of people, and seeing the smiles on their faces is the most rewarding feeling and I cannot wait to make a difference.
