1. Flight Following;

  • follow aircraft on our systems' map
  • make all appropriate notifications once an aircraft lifted IE; security, transfer centers, receiving units, dispatches, local area competitors, ground arrangements
  • take area traffic and relay that traffic to appropriate aircraft

2. PAIPS (Post Accident Incident Plan)

  • deal with emergency situations, sometimes involving patients IE; weather/unscheduled maintenance/ patient conditions /

  • if in regards to patient condition and medical team needing to land at closest hospital, notifying their ER and securing helipad

3. Delegating

  • some programs are more policy driven than others, knowing policies for primary programs. Sometimes these policies are very specific to hospitals/counties.
  • delays, lift times, and flight times sometimes determine the outcome of what aircraft is up first for flights
  • checking in crews to make sure everyone is accounted for, sometimes this means keeping track of who you have told you will call back as shift changes can become chaotic
  • radio traffic/crew calls/emergent calls/ sat phones. each for of communication has a different level of priority. multi tasking in this aspec is something I have really learned to excell in
