Internship

Anderson Center for Autism

September 2024-December 2024

Anderson Center for Autism

During my time at the Anderson Center for Autism, I had the opportunity to work closely with children diagnosed with severe autism, applying evidence-based strategies to support their development and well-being. One of my most impactful experiences involved successfully implementing structured teaching techniques to enhance communication skills in a child with significant challenges. This required patience, consistency, and a deep understanding of individualized learning styles.

I also developed and facilitated sensory-based activities tailored to address sensory sensitivities common among autistic students. These activities not only helped reduce overstimulation but also created a more accessible and engaging learning environment. In addition, I provided intensive behavioral interventions aimed at promoting positive social interactions among peers, fostering a sense of connection and inclusion.

Throughout my time at Anderson, I maintained clear and effective communication with parents and therapy teams, using data-driven feedback to track progress and inform collaborative decision-making. This experience strengthened my ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and deepened my commitment to person-centered care.

Internship

Hudson Valley Hospice
Start Date: August 2025

As of August 2025, I have begun my field internship at Hudson Valley Hospice as part of my graduate studies in social work. This internship marks a significant step in my professional development, offering me the opportunity to work directly with individuals and families facing end-of-life experiences.

In the early stages of my placement, I am becoming familiar with the hospice model of care, shadowing experienced social workers, and learning how interdisciplinary teams collaborate to provide compassionate, person-centered support. I am beginning to engage in psychosocial assessments, participate in care planning discussions, and observe how emotional, spiritual, and practical needs are addressed holistically.

This internship is already deepening my understanding of grief, loss, and the importance of dignity in care. I am committed to approaching each interaction with empathy, cultural sensitivity, and respect for the unique journeys of those we serve. I look forward to continuing to grow in this role, gaining clinical experience, and contributing meaningfully to the mission of Hudson Valley Hospice.

Volunteer work

El Coqui Restaurant
2023 – 2024

From 2023 to 2024, I volunteered every Sunday at El Coqui, a Spanish restaurant committed to serving meals to the local community. In my role as both a cook and server, I helped prepare and distribute food to individuals and families, contributing to a warm and welcoming environment.

During my time there, I had the honor of winning an empanada contest for my culinary creativity, including the creation of my signature sauce—Brendita Sauce—which was recognized as the best empanada sauce. This experience not only allowed me to give back to the community but also celebrate cultural pride through food.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore April 2024 – Present

Since April 2024, I have volunteered over 75 hours at Habitat for Humanity ReStore. My work includes organizing donations, assisting customers, and supporting store operations. This role has strengthened my teamwork and communication skills while allowing me to contribute meaningfully to a mission focused on affordable housing and sustainability.
