I feel it's very important for music teachers to keep music alive for themselves outside their classroom. This mindset has been passed on to me by my favorite music teachers and my extraordinary cooperating teachers. Every weekend I do professional work on the drums whether it be performing live or recording in the studio, I also am actively working on getting better at all of the instruments I play as I want to be the most helpful music teacher I can be on any instrument.
