I helped teach young kids how to read alongside read to them. This has helped me learn how to handle different types of people, and keep them happy and interested.
As one of the varsity coxswains on the Lawrenceville Crew Team, I have learned to take charge and lead, as I am in charge of upwards of 8 men whenever I am on and around the crew environment. My organization skills have drastically improved, as I am in charge of running practices. I have learned to take criticism and orders from my teachers effectively and efficiently.
I assisted the counselors at Tinkering School at Mark Day in teaching young kids how to build large structures and mobiles in just one week, whilst handling dangerous power tools. This helped me learn to handle large groups of kids, making me a more responsible person. This also improved my organizational skills, because we had only one week to complete two large projects. I learned to work well in a team setting, providing support and guidance.
I've participated in several community service projects through the Lawrenceville School and plan to do more. I've taken care of kids from various schools for the day, and helped entertain them through various activities set-up by the school. I've also helped to set up a community celebration for a company that works to clean the Savannah River between Georgia and South Carolina. I've also done longer community service projects at young kids' schools. These have helped me learn how to satisfy people of all ages, improve my teamwork abilities, and execute instruction thoroughly and effectively.
I helped take care of and entertain kids at an after school program once a week for three months, as a community service project. This tested and improved my patience, as these kids can have lots of energy and I would always help on Fridays after a stressful week of school. This helped my taking instruction, specifically from the teachers who led the after school program, and taught me to hand multiple tasks at once, through entertaining multiple kids with very different agendas.
