Supervises 3 people in the District shop, the Shop supervisor; Administration Assistant and a Mechanic Sr. Oversees all of the Area mechanic shops on what they need to get their jobs done in a safe and timely manner. Helps manage the Area shops on how much money is spent on repairing the equipment, or if it is feasible to send out to vendor for repairs. Supplies areas with the special tools needed for jobs. Helps resolve any problems that come up during an equipment repair, gives additional ideas of how to go about repairing equipment Facilitates training for crew and shops.
One of my first jobs after becoming District Highway Shop Superintendent was mending the relationships between the District Shop and Areas and Sub-Areas. I have a tremendous relationships with all of our shops in District 5.
Works closely with the Areas and Sub-Areas on equipment needs for them to do their jobs in a timely and safe manner.
Makes decisions best suited for KDOT on equipment when repairing or replacing the equipment based on the age, shape, cost of repairing versus replacement cost of the equipment. When new equipment comes in, i complete the proper paperwork to get it put into the KanAm system.
Works closely with employees in Topeka on the types of equipment that is needed for District 5( the speciality types of equipment, dump trucks, tractors, mowers, fuel tanks, brine tanks, etc. at different locations). If additional equipment is needed for a location, I will work with Areas to write a justification on why that additional piece of equipment is needed.
Meets with Areas every year to go over their wish/want/need list of equipment for the budget we have planned for equipment replacement. Puts together the equipment budget to best fit the needs of our District. At the end of fiscal year, if there happens to be extra money that we are allowed to use, I put together top needs of what we are needing. Listen to their ideas/wants and work with Tim and Jeff to see if we can accommodate their needs.
Lists all of our District 5 traded in equipment on DA110's to be sold on Purple Wave twice a year.
I am part of the DARC committee that goes over the accidents that happen in District 5, meets with individuals to discuss if there needs to be repercussions or what steps need to be taken to make things safer.
I am part of the Safety Committee that meets quarterly and discusses the safety needs that arise from around the District and what actions we need to do to make things safer.
Works with prospective vendors to get them on contract.
Responsible for arranging the swapping out of 20 John Deere rental tractors every year and getting them put into the system to be used.
Helps out Areas and Sub-Areas with equipment rental needed for certain jobs. Replacement of equipment like, air compressors for shops, repair of overhead hoist's, fuel tank and pump issues at the shops.
