Work History
Senior Engineering Program Manager
Honeywell Aerospace
01.2021 - Current
Responsible for leading Air and Thermal Value Stream design engineering team (direct staff of 12) which includes sub-contractors, Materials, Project, and Design Engineers.
Responsible for all of Air and Thermal buy-part transitions to second/third sources – managing a total portfolio of over 1000 parts as well as a team of Project Engineers and Program Managers (9 combined resources).
Acting Polymer Composites Manufacturing Engineering Fellow for Honeywell Aerospace.
Provided direction to design engineers for 3D-modeling, scanning, cast-to-hog-out analysis design and drawing changes to support buy-part transition to second/third suppliers.
Took ownership of a supplier Torlon Impeller project – Established that the root cause of delayed shipment was a requirement buried in a process specification for an as-molded condition FAI (after 2500 units). Worked with the spec owners and supplier to change the spec so that units on hold could be machined and shipped.
Developed new model completion MOS for high priority parts – integrated MS Project and burn-down chart to track progress – drove the completion of 49 highly complexed casting models within 4.5 months – most completing within 2 weeks of plan.
Engineering Manager
Honeywell Aerospace
01.2019 - 01.2021
Managed a team of Integrated Supply Chain project engineers supporting Supplier Transformation initiative – Responsible for transitioning >800 parts per year (supplier exits, second sources) – driving $6M+ Year-over-year productivity.
Developed an Engineering Schedule tool that enables improved planning of engineering specific tasks within the existing schedule framework as well as improved alignment with Program Managers.
Developed First Article tracking operating system to track the completion of first articles to ensure that they complete on time per IMS. MOS included weekly updated Spreadsheet tool, weekly tie-out/coordination meetings with PSE, AME, and PM. Tracked 800+ FAI parts to completion per year.
Created part complexity-based transition cost budget estimation tool to aid in AOP/STRAP planning as well as part transition package business case decisions.
Project / Manufacturing / Materials and Process Engineer
Honeywell Aerospace
01.2011 - 01.2019
Lead Integrated Supply Chain DMAIC Producibility Project team for the HTF7000 Aircraft Turbofan engine– completed part/supplier producibility actions for HTF product line worth $2.8M in annualized savings. Projects included implementing and certifying a novel aramid fan containment material system on the Fan Containment Housing – saving approximately 4 pounds of weight and $1,200 per part.
Managed Product line HTF Next Generation Aircraft Turbofan engine program Advanced Manufacturing Engineering activities – completed and managed module-based 3-point cost-estimate should-cost activities on Engineering Bill of Materials as well as MRL, Capital, and APQP/yield assessments for IPDS Phase exit reviews.
Coordinated and lead cost/risk reduction activities on fan bypass duct composite acoustic panels resulting in $240K of annual savings.
Improved HTF7500E composite Fan Containment Housing yield by introducing an alternate honeycomb core adhesive bonding method.
Derived a comprehensive should-cost estimate for a supplier designed BMI thrust reverser duct which showed supplier cost overstated by 60% enabling program to switch to an alternate design.
Materials and Processes Engineer
Orbital Sciences Corporation
01.2008 - 01.2011
Implemented several cost saving measures including pre-machined honeycomb core in lieu of purchasing capital equipment.
Supported several launch vehicle failure investigations of polymer composite structure by providing key photo micrographic evidence and employing various thermal and surface analysis techniques.
Coordinated and lead a silicone RTV adhesive/ablative material evaluation project to identify a suitable replacement for a heritage RTV material.
Project Engineer
R.E. Darling
01.2006 - 01.2008
Project Engineer for Atlas V solid rocket booster sub-assemblies.
Successfully lead JATO rocket motor insulation and nozzle development project.
Project engineer for all Minuteman III propulsion replacement program stage I compression and transfer molded assemblies.
Project engineer for VLA (Vertical Launch Asroc) nose cap assemblies, rocket nozzle assemblies, and insulator assemblies.
Materials and Processes Engineer
Northrop Grumman
01.2003 - 01.2006
Coordinated, organized, and managed Integrated Systems composite/non-metallic design allowable program.
Successfully diagnosed and implemented solution for Global Hawk polymer composite bonded sandwich structure wing leading edge problem at major supplier.
Engineering Intern
Honeywell
01.2001 - 01.2003
Investigated ways to reduce weight in support of a Honeywell water jet propulsion program by researching new materials and processes.
Coordinated with vendors to facilitate the introduction of metal matrix composites into a military water jet propulsion program.
Electronics Technician
US Navy
01.1990 - 01.1997
