Summary

To Whom it may concern;

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Bret Thompson. I am a 27 year veteran of Law Enforcement. I began my career in late 1996 with the Marquette Iowa Police Department. I graduated the leval II Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, in April of 1997. In July of 1997 I attained and graduated as an instructor in Defensive Tactics, which I currently still hold. I am a hostage and crisis negotiator and am certified as a critical incident debriefer.

Over the course of my career I have held various instructor certificates. I was an instructor in OWI investigations, Precision Driving Instructor and an Emergency Medical Technician level B. I unfortunately had to let these certifications laps due the amount of time, required for each of them. I have a part time job as an Emergency Services Dispatcher for the Wright County Consolidated Dispatch Center, which I have been with for approximately 10 years. I have been with the Clarion Police Department for over 19 years, attaining the rank of Assistant Chief Police. In this roll, which is ever changing I over see the day to day operations of the Police Department, along with all other aspects of general law enforcement duties. As a small police department, consisting of six officers, including the Chief of Police, each officer is needed and required to fill many rolls. This would include myself. Along with my administrative duties, I am also tasked with responding to calls for service, taking reports and conducting investigations.

I graduated high school in January of 1993. I had attained all necessary credits. I did not receive my diplopia until May of that year. After leaving high school I went to Hawkeye Community College. I graduated the Police Science Program in May of 1995. After graduation I began to look for fulltime employment in Law Enforcement. While doing so, I worked in a self contained school for severe behavioral disorder students.

In conclusion I would like to say, I am a self motivated, self starter and a disciplined person. When I have completed my necessary tasks, I look for more work to do. I take great pride in my appearance and duties at all times. I believe, no matter the nature of the job, weather public safety or civilian world, leader have a duty to inspire,motive and lead through example.
