Summary

I feel I am a dedicated and valuable employee of the Georgia Ports Authority. Until now I have been involved with shipping or receiving of containerized or break bulk freight. At this point in my career I would like to try something new while absolutely remaining an employee of the port. In my youth I had to work on my own cars. Whether it was a simple oil change or brakes, alternators or starters, I was able to diagnose the problem and change them. I still do the basic maintenance on my vehicles to this day. Trayco was a valuable experience in learning plumbing. I was exposed to residential and commercial faucets, toilets, supply and waste lines. I will rely on my experience, dedication and work ethic for this job.

Work History

Clerk Operator

Georgia Ports Authority
04.2015 - Current
  • I have had various responsibilities while working at Ocean Terminal.
  • Initially I operated forklifts under the direction of another clerk operator loading and unloading flat beds, containers or dry vans. I was also asked to run top lifts or jockey trucks as needed as I did at Garden City Terminal.
  • At the time, we also unloaded Toyotas from railcars on a daily basis. We were instructed where to park not only Toyotas, but Mercedes Benz and BMWs segregating them by port and vessel.
  • I was then asked to oversee the shipment of wood pulp to various paper mills. I was responsible for directing the crew in the loading of specific lots to mills as specified by the customer.
  • My last assignment has been Drive On Drive Off. I receive or ship wheeled or tracked units per the VIN numbers on the delivery orders or dock receipts. Imported units consist mainly of construction equipment but the exports I deal with are mainly autos bound for Australia and New Zealand.

Driver Operator and Clerk Operator

Georgia Ports Authority
12.2000 - 03.2015
  • I was hired by the GPA in December of 2000 as a driver operator. I was trained to first drive jockey trucks and eventually all types of container handling equipment. I could safely and efficiently operate empty handlers, load handlers and eventually RTGs.
  • I earned the title of clerk operator in November of 2009. I worked extensively in the C7 empty yard running empty handlers capable of stacking empties five and then seven high. I was also asked to operate load handlers on the Mason Rail yard loading and unloading rail cars. My RTG time was spent mainly servicing vessels. Before leaving Garden City Terminal I also served as Vessel Foreman and Rail Foreman as needed.

Operations

Elgin Transportation
01.1999 - 11.2000
  • I worked in a family owned and operated trucking company with my father. My primary goal was to get my CDL which I did. I was first trained by a company driver but was then required to take a CDL course by the company we were an agent for. I attended Savannah Tech's CDL course and earned my new license complete with hazardous material and double/triple endorsements.
  • During this time I also learned all aspects of the operation from driving, dispatching, all required paperwork and also called on steamship lines soliciting business.
  • This job led me directly to the front steps of the GPA.

Warehouse/Sales Associate

Trayco Of South Carolina
06.1995 - 12.1998
  • I began this job in a plumbing supply company with a temporary employment agency. I was brought in for manual labor to reorganize the inventory in the warehouse.
  • At the completion, I was offered a job in the warehouse. I was responsible for pulling parts for orders out of my section. I was then asked to move "up front" where myself and another coworker were responsible for completing orders as well as waiting on customers at the sales counter. It was there I learned that I could sell and entire fixture, whether a faucet or a flush valve or I could sell each individual piece. I then was promoted to inside sales where I answered calls from our outside sales staff but as well as customers calling in placing orders.
  • Before leaving I was asked to go out as needed to either fill in for a sales person in their territory or even train a new salesperson just hired by the company.
