Work History

Milling Digital Production Lead

Branch Technology
01.2019 - Current
  • Built and managed the Milling Process at Branch Technology from its beginning in 2019.
  • Created dozens of unique algorithms for part orientation, rebuilding of geometries, generation of geometries, feature detection, surface analysis, toolpath creation, process automation and simulation for KUKA milling robots.
  • Created end-to-end automated 2 1/2D Milling solution (with 5-axis swarf/raster toolpath capability) in Grasshopper (Python) for cutting parts from sheet goods via robot, including a rudimentary part nesting solution.
  • Created kinematic solution for part holding between two bespoke 3DOF(rotational) fixtures, +1 linear DOF. The script I created, which was designed for milling parts "in the round", splits the model and assigned surfaces for cutting in two orientations.
  • Created milling programs for many hundreds of unique parts using automations I built for Rhino/Grasshopper and PowerMill, with Python, C#, and the PowerMill macro language.
  • Created code that stands as the base of the automated robotic foaming process at Branch Technology. This code creates pathplans (accounting for script-defined hold-down placement), and target plane manipulation designed to keep a foaming gun with 3ft extension with away from obstacles in the foaming cell. All of this works within Grasshopper utilizing KUKA|prc.
  • Created an external axis solver (linear rail).
  • Created all milling automations currently in use at Branch Technology with a workflow through Rhino/Grasshopper (importing, part registration, orientation assignment, surface analysis, documentation, metadata, exporting) and PowerMill (automated toolpath generation and simulation working from GH export and metadata).
  • Created a Grasshopper utilities library that is used by multiple production processes.
  • Designed, fabricated, and implemented a vacuum hold down system used in milling cells.
  • Customized post-processors and kinematic models for use in CAM packages PowerMill, Fusion360, MasterCAM, EncyRobot, RhinoCAM, and RoboDK.
  • Customized utilities used on KUKA controllers.
  • Trained and managed 9 robot operators (spread out over 6 years).

Woodworker/CNC Programmer

Range Projects
01.2016 - 01.2019
  • Updated and maintained 3 axis 5'x12' CNC machine including controller hardware.
  • Recommissioned W axis for second spindle and customized post-processor and other utilities for the operation of dual spindles.
  • Recommissioned A axis for 4th axis milling and customized post-processor and other utilities for lathe work.
  • Created templates for parametric generation and modification of cabinet parts using Fusion360.
  • Created many pieces of custom furniture and cabinetry, including furniture and case work for the Songbirds Guitar Museum (Chattanooga), the Edwin Hotel(Chattanooga), the Mannington Commercial Customer Experience Center(Atlanta), and many others.

Consultant

Widow Maker
01.2013 - 01.2018
  • Consultation for the installation of a CNC router and peripheral equipment including dust collection, vacuum pump, and air compressor.
  • Assisted in the creation and installation of multiple high profile artworks including work located at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta,GA.

Woodworker/ CNC Programmer

Sears-Trostel
01.2013 - 01.2016
