Brianna Carswell

Huntsville

Summary

While working at Baldwin, I blossomed as an educator and started taking risks in the classroom. Moving towards data driven differentiation and a student led classroom model took me out of my comfort zone but my students' academic growth was all the proof and engagement was all the proof I needed that it was successful. During my time at Baldwin, I also sponsored the Robotics and Scholars Bowl clubs. Being the coach of our varsity Scholars Bowl team was the highlight of my time as the team and I made it all the way to the national championship in Chicago where we represented our school in the most prestigious Scholars Bowl tournament in the country. During my time at Whitesburg in Huntsville City I have continued to grow as an educator where I have specialized in differentiated education especially for our ELL students. I also continued to coach Scholar's Bowl where Whitesburg placed 4th overall in the HCS District Tournament

Teaching Philosophy

Focusing on student based learning also means focusing on the student's lives and needs outside of the classroom. Education is meant to prepare them for their lives post graduation which means caring for them as individuals and focusing on building them individually as well as teaching content. Educational research backs this philosophy and shows that social-emotional learning is not only effective in aiding in teaching the necessary skills to succeed post graduation.
