I believe that I would be an enthusiastic, engaging summer camp counselor given my background in childhood education and diverse sports knowledge.
I am pursuing a degree in Elementary Education at Northern Arizona University because I love teaching children. I spent many student years in after school programs growing up and found myself helping the teachers with after school activities for the younger students. After my junior year in high school, I started working in an after school program at Catalina Christian Learning Center. I helped to care for children from aged 3 through 12 years. My responsibilities included supervising independent play and organized activities like volleyball and kick ball. I was successful in engaging children, resolving conflicts and encouraging participation.
In middle school I participated in softball, basketball, and volleyball. I played club softball for four years and participated on the softball team at Ironwood Ridge High School. I began competing in equine activities such as jumping and English riding at the age of seven and continued through my senior year in high school. I competed at the national and international levels.
My long involvement in sports taught me the ethics of sportsmanship and the rewards of self discipline and hard work.
I feel like my background in sports as well as my experience in working with children has prepared me well to serve as a summer camp counselor at the Tucson Racquet Club. Furthermore, this work is consistent with my longterm goal of becoming a well rounded Elementary School teacher.
I took care of a home for one month while the owners were traveling out of the country. In addition to the home with a pool, several animals were my responsibility to take care of. This included three horses, two mules, three cats, and a tortoise. The care of the horses and mules included meals three times per day, stall maintenance, and basic grooming.
