Lead teacher in a Preschool classroom of 3 and 4 year olds. I follow and implement the curriculum, create and implement lesson plans, fun learning activities, art and science projects, and monthly activity calendars. I assess students three times per year as well as holding parent-teacher conferences. I work with co-workers, St. Paul Public Schools and the Center for Inclusive Childcare to create behavior plans, IEP's, etc. and observe children for emotional disturbance, learning disorders, and speech problems to help children be successful and meet their needs. I give literacy and math interventions to those students who need them based on assessment results as well as small group work based on individual student's needs. Not only are academics important, but I strive to help nurture the whole child through social/emotional development, the arts, exploring and learning through play, games, songs, stories and more! Consistently communicate with parents to report on student behavior, social and developmental progress as well as any observed health conditions. Promote good behaviors by using the positive reinforcement method and redirect children to encourage safe, positive behaviors. Establish a safe play environment for the children. Model appropriate social behaviors and encourage concern for others. Employ a variety of materials for children to explore and manipulate in learning activities and imaginative play. Escort children on outings and trips. I lay the foundation for Kindergarten readiness by teaching them what they are expected to know by Kindergarten, help them get used to a classroom environment, schedule, etc. and how to interact with peers; while tending to children's daily needs. As a Reading Corps tutor and member of the Reading Corps Early Math Expansion Pilot, I implement the Reading Corps curriculum which goes hand in hand with our center's curriculum. I teach children the skills they will need to be successful in Kindergarten. I assess students three times per year and based on the findings give interventions to students in need in the academic area which needs improvement. I then progress monitor intervention students every two weeks. I keep tutor logs, benchmark assessment scores and progress monitoring scores  as well as entering them into the Reading Corps Literacy (RCDMS) and Math (Knack) databases. Most of my students have surpassed the target scores for their age, with the others being on target.

Substitute teacher for this Early Childhood Education Program which is a multi-cultural therapeutic pre-school program that serves children ages 16 months to 5 years, with a focus on helping each child develop healthy social, self regulation, and developmental skills as well as academic kindergarten readiness skills. Played with the children, served meals, provided supervision and played with the children outdoors and in the gym and did art and crafts. I was the nanny to a delightful baby girl. I was responsible for her general care and safety, feeding, changing diapers, singing to, playing with, putting down for naps and taking on walks.

I assisted the mother in caring for five children while she was home as well as when both parents were at work. This included going for walks, providing meals, playing with them, outdoor play, art projects, games, naps, reading to them, bathing, changing diapers and their general care and safety.
