Work History

Senior Engineer - Nuclear Engineering

GE Vernova
04.2022 - Current
  • Product owner for the Engineer Workbench, an application being developed to streamline the core design process by encompassing the capabilities of disparate legacy tools while modernizing the user interface with improved data visualization. Goals of the project include expanding upon existing algorithmic design capability with AI-assisted core design.
  • Responsible Engineer for the GNF4 Lead Use Assembly Technical Evaluation Report, a customer-facing document that summarizes the results from a host of design analyses that support satisfaction of GESTAR II licensing requirements and introduction of the GNF4 fuel product into a new reload.

Extensive work on the Natrium project in collaboration with TerraPower:

  • Methodology owner for the Control Rod Evaluations Methodology. This methodology encompassed shutdown margin and control rod worth analyses.
  • Development in the Natrium analysis and design application in the areas of depletion uncertainty quantification, and MCNP plugin testing.
  • Developed a nuclear data perturbation plugin for the purposes of uncertainty quantification across analyses.
  • Lattice physics code cross section generation validation with code comparisons to MCNP full core calculations.
  • Reactivity coefficient quantification with MCNP

Advanced Engineer - Fleet Reactor Engineering

Fluor Marine Propulsion
09.2015 - 04.2022

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of U.S. naval reactors. At NNL I:

  • Performed reactor safety analyses that support the overall safety basis for the naval fleet. Earned multiple awards for engineering achievement from a safety analysis that demonstrated safety of reactor components using fracture mechanics analysis and risk assessment.
  • Developed automated containment analysis of multiple reactor platforms with MELCOR and downwind dose assessments with MACCS2 using shell and MATLAB scripting.
  • Modeled RELAP5 aircraft carrier reactor plant thermal hydraulic models from loss-of-coolant accident analysis in the code-scaling, applicability, and uncertainty (CSAU) framework.
  • Developed first-of-a-kind containment analysis logic for unique submarine containment structures.
  • Led emergency planning area of planning attention (emergency planning zone) analysis submittal encompassing all mobile naval reactors.
  • Performed time-critical reviews of the impact of changes to fission product release, reactor operational history, and critical containment components on severe accident consequences.
  • Served on design review teams to verify analysis models, assumptions, and methods.

Construction Field Engineer

Chicago Bridge & Iron
01.2014 - 09.2015

Conducted documentation review and supervised the construction and manufacturing of the multi-billion dollar AP1000 Vogtle Electric Generating Plant containment and auxiliary building modules.

  • I prepared turnover packages and led a team in resolving problems identified by the construction client.
  • Delegated authority of detailing manager, QC/QA manager, and product manager to perform tasks critical to project completion.
  • Promoted to final document reviewer
  • Performed duties in process engineering, welding engineering, detailing, quality control, and records management,
  • Performed detailed review of shop travelers, associated non-conformance reports, shot drawings, and engineering design changes by cross-examining records for consistency and by applying relevant codes.
  • Compared shop drawings, weld maps, welding logs, and work instructions to verify consistency with ASTM / AWS / AISC codes.
  • Made improvements to work instructions and procedures.
  • Exhibited dedication to nuclear safety culture through a questioning attitude, constant assessment of risks, and adherence to procedure.
