I am a hardworking student who has varied experience in the professional world, which has taught me a multitude of skills. In my new position as a social media intern for UCSB volleyball, I am learning how to use technology to help make a vision come alive and how to be helpful as a member in a larger social media team. As a grader for the Sociology department at UCSB, I have learned how to balance time between school and work, how to work with other student coworkers, and when to step in and take more responsibility where and when I am needed. Working part-time in the retail industry has taught me about customer service and adapting to peoples needs. Additionally, it has shown me how there is always something to do, even when business feels slow. My time volunteering as a youth board member for Water1st International, a Seattle based nonprofit, taught me a lot of what I know about advocating for social justice in a comprehensive and aware way.
Throughout high school, I was a dedicated youth board member of a local nonprofit organization in Seattle called Water1st International (focused on justice, sustainability, and accessibility). I helped lead meetings, started my own fundraising team at my high school, learned about advocacy skills, and traveled with them as a Global Fellow to Bangladesh and Honduras. After high school, I was invited to join and apply for a spot on their new Alumni council, built to improve the experience for high school youth board members and keep alumni members connected to the organization. The alumni board has since ended, so I am no longer participating in it.
