AVID Staff Developer
Middle School Principal
Walker Middle School
07.2014 - 08.2016
Prior to me assuming the role of Principal, the school had experienced a negative dip in various student achievement scores. Two years prior, there also was a need to improve morale and build leadership capacity. After collaborative data review, it was evident that teachers also needed to increase rigor and be more intentional in their planning of effective CCSS-based instruction.
I intentionally built frameworks and systems focused on improving both and in a short amount of time, I’m happy to report that positive substantial growth occurred in student engagement & achievement; we shared a common vision; we increased the implementation and consistency of intentional of effective teaching practices; and leadership capacity increased
AVID Systems, Instruction, Leadership, and Culture were the means in which we have focused data-driven school improvement work
Our practices moved from experimental to sustainable and our students were the primary beneficiaries of this focused work
Walker was identified as one of the only middle schools in the State of Oregon where students demonstrated high academic growth in both English/Language Arts & Mathematics, compared to the year prior
We were also part of an Oregon Department of Education case study to identify “why” we are outperforming schools of similar demographics.
Middle School Assistant Principal
Crossler Middle School
07.2011 - 07.2014
While Assistant Principal at Crossler Middle School, I fulfilled job responsibilities of an Instructional Leader and was a member of the Middle School Assistant Principals’ PLC, in which I had the pleasure of engaging in learning from colleagues on a regular basis.
Together we engaged in high-leverage professional learning community practices, by regularly engaging in collective inquiry, classroom observations, calibration, and brainstorming ideas to help address various problems of practice.
Led numerous first & second order changes.
Developed & implemented effective systems for student behavior supports, interventions, staff evaluations, master scheduling aligned to goals and values, and onboarding of new staff.
Engaged in courageous conversations with staff and provided data-driven evidence during professional conversations.
Served as a mentor administrator for beginning administrators and was a member of the SK24J Administrative Data Committee.
Continued to collaborate with colleagues in planning and delivering professional development to our middle school teachers and district administrators.
Middle School Instructional Coach
Middle School Summer Academy Facilitator/Teacher Leader
08.2008 - 08.2011
I had the pleasure of being a part of the first MS Instructional Coaching PLC and we successfully established a culture of learning through instructional coaching/embedded professional development.
I was also a member of the following District Committees: Budget Communication Group; Interdisciplinary Team (IDT); & the CLASS/Chalkboard Project Evaluation Pathways Committee (aligned teacher evaluations to the new National Teaching Standards).
I was also an active participant of the following District Professional Learning Communities (PLCs): Language Arts Intensive; Reading/Writing Workshop; Math Proficiency-Based Grading & Assessment; and Middle School Language Arts Standards Mapping.
I co-facilitated the District’s Middle School Language Arts Standards Mapping process and I spent three years co-facilitating Middle School Summer Academy.
While an Instructional Coach, I provided professional development to administrators, program assistants, teachers, and classified staff through various models.
Those models include: embedded instructional coaching, after school workshops, Summer Academy, and district sponsored Inservices.
I also have presented at community forums such as the Salem Chamber of Commerce and at School Board meetings.
Some of the additional trainings I have attended include: English Language Development (ELD), Coaching Conversations, Blended Instructional Coaching, Analyzing Student Work, & Differentiated Instruction.

While employed by San Ramon Unified I also received extensive pedagogy professional development in the Reading and Writing Workshop Model which included attending classes at Columbia University (NY Reading & Writing Project) and embedded coaching professional development.
Continued my own professional growth and completed an additional 12-credit graduate program resulting in obtaining my Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development (CLAD) Credential.
