As a Nurse Intern, I had the opportunity to rotate through multiple critical units of the hospital, honing both clinical and patient care skills while balancing rigorous academic demands. In my final year, I chose to specialize in Labor and Delivery, a department where I became deeply committed to supporting patients through one of the most vulnerable and transformative experiences of their lives. My comprehensive training allowed me to develop a broad skillset across multiple disciplines, with a primary focus on patient safety, effective communication, and hands-on care.

Key Responsibilities & Achievements:

• Labor and Delivery:
  Provided compassionate, patient-centered care to expectant mothers, ensuring their emotional and physical comfort throughout labor and delivery.
  Assisted with monitoring fetal heart tones, contractions, and maternal vital signs, responding promptly to any changes in condition.
  Collaborated with healthcare teams to support vaginal deliveries, Cesarean sections, and postpartum care.
  Advocated for patients' preferences and needs, ensuring effective communication, particularly in diverse settings (e.g., translating for Spanish-speaking patients to bridge language barriers).
  Supported laboring women with comfort measures such as positioning, breathing techniques, and guidance during epidural procedures.
  Assisted with post-delivery care for both mother and baby, including newborn assessments, initial bonding, and breastfeeding support.
  Focused on infection prevention and control measures, ensuring sterile techniques in all aspects of delivery care and postpartum recovery.
  Demonstrated proficiency in recognizing abnormal labor patterns and interpreting electronic fetal monitoring strips to assist in decision-making for patient interventions.
• Emergency Department (ED):
  Worked in a fast-paced environment, regularly performing technical nursing tasks under supervision, including IV insertions, urinary catheterizations, and medication administration (oral, IV push, rectal, topical).
  Developed strong assessment and time-management skills, learning to prioritize tasks in high-stress situations.
  Collaborated with interdisciplinary teams in emergency care, developing a quick response mindset and honing therapeutic communication to build trust with anxious patients.
• Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU):
  Assisted with routine neonatal assessments, including vital signs, baths, diaper changes, and feeding support.
  Supported parents in their understanding of newborn care, including bottle-feeding techniques and skin-to-skin bonding, providing reassurance and guidance throughout.
  Attended hospital-based training and obtained certification to safely bottle-feed infants, supporting the NICU team in providing essential care.
• Intensive Care Unit (ICU):
  Gained experience in managing critical patients, including performing trach suctioning, chest tube care, and assisting with ventilator management under direct supervision.
  Contributed to patient safety through constant monitoring and early detection of changes in patient condition.
