Accomplishments

Sergeant Britian T. Shields is enthusiastically recommended for the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for outstanding service in the performance of his duties while serving as the Customer Support Branch (CSB) Noncommissioned Officer-in-Charge (NCOIC), Marine Aircraft Group 49 Detachment C (MAG-49 Det C) from June 2018 to October 2023. During this period, Sergeant Shields distinguished himself through the following significant accomplishments. While serving as the CSB NCOIC, Sergeant Shields was instrumental in the procurement of over 5 million dollars worth of requisitions and open purchases in support of flight operations. He meticulously processed each purchase for accuracy while making every effort to ensure the procurement of even the most difficult items requested. His positive relationship with the customer and SERVMART ensured open communication from request to receipt of each item. Sergeant Shields played an integral part during the Fiscal Year 2023 Wing Functional Area Inspection. His work ethic and dedication to the mission resulted in 100% on the Custody Record Audit, 98% on the Money Value Only audit, and 89% on the Appendix H checklist, contributing to the overall Supply Department score of 93% on the Functional Area Inspection. Sergeant Shields expertly tracked, inventoried, and managed custody records for Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 773 Detachment A (HMLA-773 Det A) and MAG-49 Det C, including Flight Equipment and Table of Basic Allowance. During this time, he conducted ten Table of Basic Allowance Inventories and twenty Flight Equipment Inventories with no lost items or surveys. His efforts ensured more organized and efficient programs to be utilized by the units to improve mission readiness. The impact of Sergeant Shields' efforts directly affected the mission of HMLA-773 Det A and their flight operations. His Supply expertise contributed to the Squadron maintaining an 80% Mission Capable Aircraft Readiness Rate and the successful execution of over four thousand flight hours during his tenure. Sergeant Shields served as the GeeDunk NCOIC, ensuring adequate snacks and drinks were available to the Marines of MAG-49 Det C and HMLA-773 Det A. Doing so, improved morale within the unit as well as assisted with raising unit funds that enabled the unit to conduct morale boosting activities. Sergeant Shields set a standard for customer service for all Marines that follow in his place. His efforts and positive attitude greatly improved the relationship between Supply and Maintenance while also improving mission readiness for the flying squadron. Sergeant Shields' initiative, perseverance, and dedication to duty reflected credit on him and was in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and United States Naval Service. He is highly recommended for the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
