I am proud to claim that I had a key role in helping Bayard Elementary School to become an accredited Lighthouse School through the Leader in Me program. This program focuses on social/emotional skills and becoming goal oriented learners, so that students may be able to perform tasks with confidence to become academically successful. It is similar to student council, but more detailed in the goals that are focused on being set. Being a co-sponsor for the student lighthouse team, I was able to help lead the team to success by being dedicated to the goal. I aim to be a positive role model by modeling positive leadership. We were able to raise money for school equipment, help fund AR parties and other events, participate in food drives, boost state testing motivation, and most importantly grow as students and people in general. I am a very outgoing person, so taking on tasks involving the community was something I really enjoyed and I am dedicated to instill the same energy everywhere I go.
I strive to get my students to enjoy reading and to boost literacy skills. I have recently taken on a new Reading curriculum and by focusing on data from previous testing and the standards that needed to be hit, I was able to lead my 6th graders to a near 600pt increase, 20-80+ per student, from their Fall 2024 NSCAS ELA scores. I am able to boost engagement through integrating various forms of technology, as well as multiple study strategies, leading to more interactive and engaging dynamic lessons.
Employed a student economy to encourage student learning and build community within the classroom. I implemented this to teach the students about real life situations and to instill responsibility, accountability, planning, organization, and time management.
Won “Teacher of the Month” award at Bayard Elementary in October 2021.
In 2019, my senior year of college, I was awarded all 3 levels of the Live Your Dream Award. This award focuses on women who strive to make a better life for themselves while being positive role models through the process. I grew up with an immense amount of hardships and disadvantages, as well as giving birth to my son 8 days before my senior year began, but used that as motivation to pursue my teaching career instead of giving up. This award was given to me to give me credit for my hard work, persistence, and to honor my dedication to being better and wanting better for others as well. My diverse background has benefited me to be able to thoroughly understand and relate to my students that have also been given circumstances out of their control. I aim to teach my students that they are also in control of their own outcome through instilling confidence in them to become dedicated and persistent as well. I truly want the best for them.
