Volunteer Work
In 2020, I volunteered at a Summer camp for children with autism four times a week. I developed valuable skills such as patience, communication, and how to work with kids that have behavioral issues. I was supposed to help only my brother, but I found myself helping with some of the other kids as well.
I have spent a significant amount of time volunteering at a local food bank called The Well as a “personal shopper.” During this time, I assisted individuals in filling their carts to ensure they left with enough food to support themselves and their families. Additionally, I worked in the warehouse, where I stocked and weighed food, loaded pallets, and determined which foods and items were suitable to be placed on shelves. I volunteered here for about 40 hours so I started to learn how things work, so whenever new people came in I would help train them.
Through my church’s youth group, I volunteered to support low-income communities in Tennessee, including Waverly and Rogersville which were both heavily impacted by floods. In Waverly, we worked with the Appalachian Service Project to clear debris and prepare sites for new homes. In Rogersville, we assisted a local food distribution center and thrift store called Of One Accord with stocking, cleaning, building, and many other tasks that needed to be done.
