  • Since being at Howard, I've volunteered with Grassroots Health, which partners with student-athletes. Grassroots is a nonprofit organization that works to educate middle school students in DC public schools on the importance of nutrition, physical and mental health, and sex education. On my non-practice days, I volunteer at two of the KIPP DC Shaw Campus programs, educating sixth graders on the importance of nutrition and helping them understand the changes their bodies are going through.

  • Since May 2024 to currently, I've been working as a receptionist at Ergo Solutions Therapy and Rehab Solutions While working at Ergo, I answer phone calls, schedule patient appointments, shadow physical therapists, and assist patients with their recovery exercises

Certified Red Cross & Ellis and Associates Lifeguard

  • From the summers of 2021 to 2023, I worked 30 to 40 hours a week as a lifeguard; I ensured the on-land and water safety of children and residents of my community, and I made sure they had the opportunity to have fun, relax, and enjoy their time at the pool, without the stress of accidents and injuries of family members, I am trained to provide basic life support, CPR, and assist with emergency rescues if required

Volunteer Assistant for an Occupational Therapist

  • During the summer of 2021, for about 20 hours a week, I had the opportunity to volunteer as an assistant and shadow the workday of an occupational therapist With an interest in therapeutics and sports medicine, I was able to help assist patients, keep medical records up to date, check patients in and out, and watch patient treatments, obtaining an upfront glimpse of what working in this profession would be like

Shadowed an Orthopedic Surgeon

  • On May 29, 2024, I had the opportunity to shadow an orthopedic surgeon in the surgery room as he performed knee surgery on a patient I got to see how precise and technical everything is, and observe the roles of each doctor in the room

Certification

  • I completed the eight-module course: "Introduction to Probability and Data with R" by Duke University. This course allowed me to learn more about sampling, I got to explore and analyze data and understand what probability is. Upon completion of this course, I received a certificate indicating my completion and understanding of the course.
  • Certified to give CPR, use an AED, and give First Aid

Minds In Motion Scholar-Athlete Award, 06/01/23, 10th, 11th, & 12th Grade

To be a student-athlete, you must prioritize your education. From the Winter of 2021 to the Spring of 2023, I have maintained between a 3.5 and 3.7 Grade Point Average while participating in Interscholastic Athletics. In return, I have been awarded the Minds in Motion: Scholar-Athlete Award by the Maryland Athletic Association for the past 3 years of my high school career.

Blake High School 'MVP' Athletic Award, 05/01/23, 11th Grade

While being an outstanding student in the classroom, I am also phenomenal on the track. With obstacles along the way and learning how to manage time between school, track, family, and friends, I persevered. I won numerous medals and awards in the track and field world including 'MVP' by my coaches and school.

James Demoss Award, 05/01/23, 11th Grade

After a long two days competing at the 2023 Montgomery County Track & Field Outdoor Championships, track and field coaches from all over the county voted for who should be the one 'MVP' of the track meet out of hundreds of track athletes. At the end of the meet, it was announced that I, Brooke Cochran won the James Demoss Award. This award is presented annually to one outstanding athlete for displaying leadership, courage, and humanity.

I have been honored and voted to be one of the team captains for the Blake High School Track Team. My coaches felt that my leadership, hard work, and dependability would be perfect for leading our large team to reach our goals individually and as a whole.

I was honored by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for maintaining a 3.0 or better cumulative grade poing average while being a student athlete in college.
