I manage in a collaborative manner. As the manager, my job is to make the key decisions for the department. Open consultation and decisive decision making is my management style.
Have over 25 years of mining and mineral exploration expertise. Have worked in isolated mining camps throughout Canada, South America and Africa.
Also have green-card status in the USA.
Have worked at four start-up situations and one closure as well as steady state mines. Have also done brown-fields exploration within the tenement package as well as project management transitioning from greenfields exploration to resource declaration of new tenements.
Have 6 years of Chief Geologist and over 13 years of Senior Geologist management experience in both underground and open pit environments.
Have a proven ability to do geological research to create a viable ore genesis model. This understanding is employed to make good mining decisions to maximize Net Present Value for the mining company.
Geologic Analysis and Interpretation:
Mine to Mill reconciliation +2% for 4 years of production (Fekola).
Executed the change over from blast hole sampling to RC drilling for OC modelling data gathering. Introduce new blockout procedure that is geostatistically sound and in alignment with the new ore genesis model (MCM).
Reduced dilution from 12% to 3%. Accomplished by generating a new ore genesis model for the deposit. Used structural controls to guide ore polygon generation (MCM).
Mine to Mill reconciliation improvement 15-20% to 5-8%. Accomplished by recognizing that differing lithologies react with differing blast displacement. Brought in BMT to track blast movement (Tasiast).
Develop a chip logging and interim face mapping program. Integrate this into the ore blockout process to better define ore zones and aide in geological interpretation (Bisha).
Staff Mentorship and Management:
Critical skills identified and individuals lacking these skills were individually mentored to insure they could achieve standards
Highly skilled individuals were identified and given more freedom and responsibilities (Fekola and Bisha).
Develop a Performance Management Review Process where geologists have established responsibilities and metrics for measuring their development (Fekola and Bisha).
Develop new organizational structure for the Geology Department with clear developmental pathways for national staff (Fekola and Bisha).
