Maintenance Mechanic (E&I)

  • Responsibilities were to replace, repair, and maintain the department’s electrical and instrumentation on a daily basis
  • I have graduated Eastman’s 4 year apprenticeship and am a first class E&I technician.
  • I repair, replace and troubleshoot all types of instrument brands and types, perform annual interlock checks, troubleshoot DCS and PLC problems, and troubleshoot various types of motor circuits

  • My responsibilities while employed by CSX Transportation were to supervise employees on back shifts and to also repair heavy and light electrical problems on locomotives
  • My electrician duties consisted of checking the working order of all lighting devices on locomotives, inspecting the traction alternator, traction motors, cooling fans, traction blower, air to air fans, all contractors, relays, electronic components, dynamic braking grids, and push button circuits
  • I also performed facility electrical maintenance for the entire Erwin yard operation which included all transformers, pole maintenance, fuses, sub station repair and maintenance, and equipment
  • Locomotives entering the shop area would commonly have electrical control system problems
  • It was my duty to troubleshoot and repair these problems via fault logs, locomotive electrical schematics, and on the job experience
  • The lead responsibility of the job consisted of supervising shop employees while no salary manager was present, determine with power management which locomotives should be placed on different trains, order replacement parts for out of service locomotives, move locomotives to build and brake test consists, and ensure employees are working safely and efficiently.
  • Monitored parts inventory and reordered to maintain stock.
