Work History

Lieutenant

Federal Bureau of Prisons
Devens, MA
05.2002 - Current
  • As a Lieutenant, I am charged with the responsibility of maintaining the security and integrity of the institution. I am responsible for the daily operations and supervise approximately 1200 inmates and a custody staff of 200 Officers. My duties require me to have frequent and direct contact with individuals who have been placed in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the public. I have the responsibility to enforce the rules and regulations governing the operation of the correctional institution and the confinement, safety, health and protection of inmates in custody. This may at times require arduous physical exertion to subdue unruly, combative and mentally unstable inmates who may be armed and assaultive. As a Lieutenant, I am responsible to train subordinate staff, newly hired staff as well as annual refresher training. As a Lieutenant and subject matter expert, it is my duty to train all staff in the application of restraints, use of force, operation of security detection devices, searches, preservation of evidence, armed transportation of inmates and dealing with violent and unstable inmates. My administrative duties include proper scheduling of Correctional Workers, monitoring overtime, conducting audits and completing performance evaluations of staff. I am the Supervisor of the Correctional Training Officer program, which is the agency's equivalent of a Field Training Officer program. During this training, I use a variety of techniques to teach staff such as mock exercises, role playing scenarios and other simulation drills to ensure state of readiness. During my tenure with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, I hold and have held numerous collateral duties. These duties include Lead Firearms Instructor, Assistant Team Leader for the Special Operations Response Team, National Tactical Trainer for Special Operations Response Teams, Prisoner Transport Instructor and Evidence Recovery.
  • Prior to my role as a Lieutenant, I worked in the Special Investigations Section of the Bureau of Prisons. I have conducted complex investigations which included cases which were referred for federal prosecution. I have written comprehensive, detailed investigative reports. I was a subject matter expert in drug, weapon and other types of contraband detection. I am versed in the management of crime scenes and have conducted training to staff regarding the preservation, security, documentation and processing of evidence. I was the liaison to outside law enforcement agencies to include the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Drug Enforcement Agency, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, United States Attorney's Office and numerous state and local law enforcement agencies. I have been called on by outside law enforcement agencies to testify in Federal and State Courts to provide expert witness testimony.

Platoon Trainer NCO

US Army National Guard
Pembroke, NH
11.2009 - 03.2013
  • As a Platoon Trainer, I was assigned as an instructor for New Hampshire's Officer Candidate School. My primary function was to teach, assess and counsel candidates assigned to me in order to maximize their development of their leadership ability. In the Officer Candidate School environment, I worked directly with the Platoon Trainer Officer and in his/her absence, took charge of the training. My tasks were directed at training Officer Candidates in executing platoon missions and collective tasks as a potential leader. The success of the training directly impacted the candidate's success in becoming commissioned officer's in the US military.
