Patient care, assessment, and triage on medical calls. During structure fires I perform all fire ground duties. Fire attack, utilities, RIT, Ventilation, Forcible Entry. All dependent on my assignment for that shift.
For motor vehicle accidents along with patient care activities I would also be involved in stabilizing vehicles, extricating patients.
Part of Task force 5 and Rescue certified.
While employed my job was to perform fire ground activities, same as current job. Emporia was also an EMS department responding to all of Lyon county and also was a critical care access point. I was expected to take up to 3 transfers per shift to different nearby hospitals. Majority of the time it was hospitals in Kansas City, Topeka and Wichita. For none ALS medical calls I was in charge of patient care and transfer once at the medical facility.
