Majority of all my volunteer time involves projects or time at the Warren Alvarado School District
5th Grade Class Trip
6 years ago my wife and I helped create an annual class trip each February for all 5th graders in Warren Alvarado Oslo schools that involves taking a bus to Lake of the Woods, riding out to an ice house in a Bombardier, and ice fishing for the day. We coordinated this trip with MN DNR, a local ice fishing guide,WAO Ed Foundation, and worked to fund all the equipment and cost through local businesses and donations. The teachers incorporate Lake of the Woods into all courses over a period of time and end the unit with this trip. I am fortunate to still be able to go with and chaperone each year.
Substitute Paraprofessional
During majority of my time working at the Marshall County Sheriff's Office I would fill in at the Warren Alvarado Oslo as a substitute paraprofessional when I had days off or if I worked the night shift. I did get paid sometimes for my work but I often would just help out as needed. Once I started working for Social Services I was no longer able to fill in as needed.
Miscellaneous Volunteering at the School
Over the 20 plus years of being married to a special eduction teacher, I am continually helping out when a need arises. This includes things such as assisting with track and field days, school carnivals, or talent shows, helping move staff when changing classrooms, bringing food and treats to school staff during COVID (I like to grill). Building things for classrooms, or replacing countertops in a classroom just to name a few.
