Internship at Hashawa Environmental Center

Journal 6: Updating Your Resume & Reflection Paragraph

  • Objective: You will update your resume using experiences from your internship to summarize your qualifications, highlight strengths, and update skill sets.
  • Rationale for Assignment: Professionals often update their resumes regularly so they don’t lose sight of important tasks or projects. Now that you’ve engaged in many important activities at your internship, it is time to update your resume. Consider the following:
  • What experiences can you add to your resume from your internship?
  • What technical skills have you acquired as part of your internship?
  • How can you include topics from your “employability skills” journal to your resume?
  • Can older or less significant experiences be removed from your resume?
  • Directions for assignment: There are two parts to the resume assignment. First, you will update your resume. Second, you will reflect on your resume. If you’ve already created a resume for another class/mock interviews, you may use that as a draft, or you may decide to start from scratch.
  • Your resume must include headings for:
  • - Your name and contact information (non-CCPS email and phone number)
  • - An objective or summary statement
  • - Education (this section can include WHS, and CCCTC or dual enrollment, if applicable)
  • - Experience (this section can include your internship as well as other jobs, if applicable)
  • Optional headings you can include on your resume, if applicable:
  • - Skills
  • - Certifications
  • - Volunteer Work or Community Service
  • - Extracurricular Activities
  • - Awards and Honors
  • See the resume resources in the folder in Schoology for examples, templates, and tips. Here are some really important tips!
  • - Your resume should be a single page.
  • - Do not include any images, including a picture of yourself, on your resume.
  • - Be careful to keep your tenses the same throughout the resume. It is appropriate to use past tense for the entire resume OR use present tense for activities you are currently doing and past tense for activities you’ve done in the past.
  • - Your resume should only include recent experiences and activities. Stick to experiences and activities from your high school years.
  • Include the following topics in your reflection paragraph:
  • - Describe how your internship experiences have strengthened your resume. Include at least 3 pieces of specific evidence.
  • - How does your resume stand out amongst the resumes of your peers?
  • - What experiences or skills would you like to develop to strengthen your resume in the future?
  • Scoring Tool:
  • Criteria Points Possible
  • Resume Revision: Resume is revised and updated to include detailed internship skills gained as well as other activities. The required categories of contact information, an objective or summary statement, education, and experience are included. 10
  • Reflection Paragraph: The reflection paragraph includes details on how the internship has strengthened the resume, why the resume stands out compared to other resumes, and the skills and experiences that the student would like to add to the resume in the future. 10
  • Professional Qualities: Writing and Time Management The resume is free of grammar and spelling errors and formatted properly. The resume looks clean and professional. 4
  • The resume is submitted on time. 1
  • Total Possible Points 25
