After graduation, we were able to continue training, collecting blood specimens. We practiced how to talk with patients and donors to help them feel less nervous about having their blood drawn. We verified the patient's identity to ensure proper labeling of specimens and entry of information into the database. Keeping a clean, sanitary, and safe work environment is extremely important to avoid infection or contamination. Continued training also consisted of assemble and maintaining equipment such as needles and specimen containers.
