I am looking to gain experience in a patient care setting as a tentative new graduate nurse, in order to strengthen my skills and learn from seasoned and skilled nurses. Whether this be in a transition to practice residency, or a position as a new graduate RN, I am eager to apply what I have learned in my schooling in order to delivery excellent patient care and make an impact on those around me. I hope that in obtaining an opportunity such as this, I can grow my capabilities and prepare myself for a successful and meaningful career in healthcare.
In my time at Chandler Regional Medical center, I was able to rotate through a labor and delivery unit, as well as a postpartum unit, where I was able to apply what I have been learning in my OB didactic class such as fetal heart monitoring, maternal and newborn assessments, and medication administration, all tailored to the field of maternal and child health nursing.
During this clinical rotation, I worked 6 shifts on a neuro telemetry unit, assisting RN's on the floor with patient care tasks, and practicing hands-on skills such as medication administration, IV management, and catheter care. This rotation helped me strengthen my head-to-toe assessment skills and enhance my critical thinking capabilities as I got to see the in-depth process of case management and care prioritization from the nurses I worked with.
During my clinical rotation at Arizona State Hospital, I gained experience in the field of behavioral health nursing, practicing skills such as building rapport with patients, employing therapeutic communication into everyday conversations, and was involved in case management meetings for patients on the unit.
This clinical rotation was my first in my time at GCU, and during it I was able to learn foundational tenants of patient care such as hygiene, building rapport with patients, performing basic assessments, obtaining vital signs, and assisting with ADL's and mobility.
