Work History

RN on Inpatient Surgical Unit(2F)

8 Years 8 Months
Central Virginia VA Healthcare System | 01.2018 - Current
  • I am responsible for providing high-quality patient care to Veteran patients prior to and following surgery for numerous services, including: General, Vascular, Cardio Thoracic, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Gynecology, ENT, Plastics, and Urology. On a daily basis I collaborate with several members of the healthcare team (doctors, nurses, pharmacists, etc.) to ensure each patient receives the best care possible. Each shift provides me with the opportunity to learn and grow as a nurse, as well as provide education to my patients in a variety of subjects helping them to better understand and advocate for themselves in their health journey. My position on 2F often has me caring for step-down unit-level patients, in addition to patients who have received a variety of anesthesia (i.e. General, MAC, bupivacaine nerve blocks, TAP block, etc.).I managed patients with various drains and tubes, including Jackson Pratt drains, chest tubes, and NG tubes. Oversaw 3-5 patients at a time due to the high volume of patients in my unit, which required impeccable organizational and time management skills. Provided compassionate care to veterans, supporting their healing journey through education and advocacy in health management.
