Lifeguard Supervisor
Water Safari
Old Forge, New York
05.2026 - 09.2026
Complied with our EAP to manage my zone of up to 28 lifeguards and dispatchers by responding to EAP activation for rescues, first aids and other safety concerns. After assessing the situation, I would address immediate safety concerns to the extent of my training and would communicate via radio to the on duty park EMT if a situation was beyond my training. Due to high guest volume, EAP was activated nearly every day for multiple rescues and first aid incidents. Each week I participated in inservices, biweekly I taught inservices and monthly I reviewed skills with minors during operational hours due to their limitations in allowable work hours. During the season I helped prepare guards for our StarGuard audit; StarGuard was our certification agency.
In addition to guest safety, I monitored the safety of guards by managing breaks, providing sun protection, leading guards and dispatchers to a safe evacuation location during storms and ensuring guards had hip packs routinely replenished with adequate PPE and first aid supplies.
Daily cleaning of my zone included: deck chlorination, vacuuming pools, completing trauma bag and safety equipment checks of AED and backboards, checking all rides in my zone for potential safety hazards
Assisted water maintenance department throughout the summer. In preseason I acid washed pools, pressure washed, thorough sealed balance tanks and vacuumed the pools. By the end of summer my responsibilities expanded to include coming in early to assist water maintenance team before park opening with DE filter cleaning and completing slide inspection checklists and walk throughs for each of the 16 slides across the park.

Scheduling responsibilities varied by season and club management. They expanded from: scheduling my shift of guards to scheduling all guards to assisting pool manager with forecasting based on predicted guest volume and labor budget
Consistently interacted with members on deck which allowed for feedback and building relationships with members
Organized and ran swim meets including communicating with coaches, ordering awards, finding volunteers and collecting dues
Began new programs including Masters swim team and water aerobics class. Budgeted so that the program fee could cover expenses for a coach and pool rental in addition to working with pool manager to ensure adequate guard coverage during programs. There were different payment options, pay for the session or drop-in fee. I kept a record of all dues paid and the profit generated for the club.
Assisted with onboarding of new guards and communicated with management when there were payroll issues that a guard brought to my attention.
Communicated with managers in other departments to create the best pool experience for members. Primarily communicated with Food and Beverage for pool parties and snack bar and communicated with Facilities Manager for bathhouse and pool concerns. Communicating between departments allowed for more quality offerings to members including birthday parties and pool events.
Became CPO certified at the beginning of my third season at the club and I would check chemicals, adjust when necessary, and maintain a daily record that would be shared with the health department during her yearly visits in addition to our binder of lifeguard certifications and incident log. We upgraded to a chlorinator that allowed me to program times and this saved the club staff hours of having to come in early to adjust levels for the day. Once I became CPO certified, I began backwashing our sand filters and ordering chemicals. I dealt with three companies for ordering chlorine during my time there and the last season I secured a quote from our current supplier, AMREX, that would save the club 25% on chlorine.
