Experienced literacy designer, educator, coach, and school leader with more than twenty years of education experience, committed to supporting the implementation and refinement of equitable instructional practices for students. Highly knowledgeable about literacy instruction, research-based literacy practices, curriculum, and pedagogy, and skilled at supporting teachers, school leaders and other stakeholders in identifying concrete and actionable ways to address needs. Passionate about high leverage text-based instruction, relevant and representative materials, and access to literacy skills for all students, particularly those traditionally marginalized by school.
Design, support, lead and/or execute organizational literacy work with external stakeholders, including a wide range of projects and roles. Perform curriculum reviews, provide advisory support to curriculum developers, state and district leaders, and other education nonprofits. Roles and collaboration include leading partnerships and pilots with district partners, advising other ed nonprofits on programming and offerings, collaborating with stakeholders such as the Council of the Great City Schools and the CCSSO, managing grant-funded projects, and designing and facilitating professional learning courses or offerings for teachers, school leaders, LEAs/ SEAs, and other education stakeholders..
As Academic Director (2012-2014), served on the founding team for a new turnaround charter school in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, starting with grades K-3 and expanding by one grade each year. Supervised and coached teachers, collaborated with network leaders around curriculum adoption, adaptation, and implementation, and supported all professional development and teacher support. Collaborated with an educator team to support family and caregiver involvement initiatives, plans for English Learner services, and the management of the schools IEP process, including communication and meetings with families and caregivers. As Director of Instructional Leadership (2014-2016), supported plans to expand from an elementary to middle school, including opening with a sixth-grade class; managed and coached instructional leadership; supported the development of teacher professional learning and coaching systems.
